The Sharjah Entrepreneur Center “Sheraa” organized the first Startup Weekend activities this year, and the “Listen to Me” team won the first place during the event, whose project idea revolves around the creation of an audio library that includes many Arab literature in the fields of education and entertainment.
The winning team receives a sum of 15,000 dirhams in cash, in addition to benefiting from the services of the Sheraa Center, including a work space that helps the team implement and follow up the project, and obtain the license. The team is provided with strategic advice and services to develop its business, by an advertising company, and benefit from the IBM Global Entrepreneur program and a free points balance on the IBM cloud equivalent to $ 120,000. The “Money” crowdfunding platform also provides the team with a balance of $ 750 and support in strategic marketing and legal training.
Startup Weekend is a global event organized by Tick Stars, with support from the Google for Entrepreneurs Global Foundation. During the event, Sheraa Center gave the opportunity to more than 200 young and girls competitors to present their projects and compete with others to win and then start their work for new horizons.
Young people from various educational institutions in the University City of Sharjah participated in the event, all of whom raced to win one of the prizes presented and start their businesses. Also participated in the event a number of experts in the field of graphic design, strategic marketing, programmers, and skill developers, where they gave workshops and lectures to the youth participating in the event in a way that helps them in establishing their businesses. The event also witnessed a strong presence of a number of guides and lecturers, as 15 project / project ideas were selected to ascend to the final stages and compete for the first positions.
The judging list included a group of prominent personalities, including Alia Al Mazrouei, CEO of Al Mazrouei International Company, Aisha Tarim, editor-in-chief of the Gulf Today newspaper, PK Gulati, founder of “Installation”, and Najla Al Midfa, director of the Sheraa Center.
